The elevators are up and running at the Jean-Talon métro station.

The Société de transport de Montréal announced the elevators began operation on Tuesday after two years of construction at a cost of $9 million, about half of which was paid by the province.

It’s the second métro station to be equipped with elevators in the last six months. In December, the Champ-de-Mars métro station inaugurated its elevators.

There are now nine stations with elevators, and the STM has a goal for 17 stations by 2020.

In January 2016, work is set to be completed on the Snowdon métro station, and Rosemont is to get its elevators by July of next year.

The other stations with elevators are: Montmorency, de la Concorde, Cartier, Henri-Bourassa, the Orange Line at Berri-UQAM, Lionel-Groulx, and Côte-Vertu.

The next stations pegged to get elevators are: Place-d’Armes, Mont-Royal, Honoré-Beaugrand, Place-des-Arts, the Green Line at Berri-UQAM and Vendôme. Construction on those projects has not yet begun.
